PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The Master of General Surgery is a 4 years Master of General Surgery programme offered by KPJ University College provides trainees with the range and depth of academic experience and clinical exposure required to develop superior surgical skills and an ability to make mature, informed, independent judgments.
Graduates of the programme are expected to be general surgeons or may pursue further surgical sub specialty after they graduate. This level of capability is attained through a programme that offers extensive clinical exposure at every level of training. The advantage of our programme is that we are offering “one to one” mentorship training by the consultant general surgeons at various KPJ Hospitals.
The Master of General Surgery is a 4 years programme. This programme is conducted in collaboration with Department of Surgery, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and is accredited by Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA). Trainees will be rotated between UKM Medical Centre and accredited KPJ hospitals such as KPJ Johor Specialist Hospital, KPJ Puteri Specialist Hospital, KPJ Tawakkal Specialist Hospital and KPJ Damansara Specialist Hospital.
Supervision is provided by consultant general surgeons with clinical and surgical expertise in every major area providing close supervision and consultation for all trainees to assist them in planning a surgical career.
Clinical research, as a method for developing the appropriate approach to clinical problems, is expected from all residents. Trainees are expected to write case reports and conduct clinical research for their final thesis.
The programme recognizes the importance of surgical preparation for the qualifying examinations of the Malaysian Conjoint Board of Surgery. Trainees will be posted to HUKM for the 2nd and 4th year rotation to assist in their preparation. Finally, trainees will be sitting the Malaysian Conjoint Board of4 years programme General Surgery qualifying examination at the end of the 4 years program

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Malaysian Students
The candidate should fulfill the criteria set by the University College, Conjoint Board and Ministry of Health :
- Possess a Medical Degree (M.D., M.B.B.S., or M.B.Ch.B) or equivalent qualifications from universities recognized by the Senate of the university;
- Must be registered for medical practice by the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC) and possess a valid Annual Practicing Certificate (APC);
- At least 2 years of clinical training / practice after they have obtained their Medical Degrees and completed the housemanship;
- Sits for the written screening examination;
- Performance at interview;
- Any other criteria deemed suitable by the Senate.
International Students
- International candidates a valid Annual Practicing Certificate from the country of origin and a Temporary Practicing Certificate (TPC) from MMC;
- Graduates of Medical Schools outside Malaysia must complete at least three months of clinical attachments;
- Proficient in the English Language: TOEFL score of 750 or IELTS grade 7 or an equivalent International English Competency test;
Financial guarantee or scholarship; - At least 3 years of working experience after internship at the time of entry into the program.
